This is a very dumb opinion that suggests that the Kickstarter system should nobly fund indie artists exclusively. People love this opinion, though, because they believe the stupid myth that the difference between Hollywood big budget schlock and great films is access.

Nope: consumer preference has consistently shaped our aggregate desire to consume and thus reward total shit. It’s actually very Democratic; the problem is that much of the time the outcome of Democracy doesn’t make ideologues very happy. Kickstarter’s evolution into an organ for movie stars to take money from their fans is just another amusing example of the difference between what indie types believe people want or what is good and the reality of broad society’s fondness for total shit.
